Jabberwock Awards 2019

Through the Looking Glass International Film Festival has decided to pay homage to Lewis Carroll devoting its awards to the cryptomysterical Jabberwock.

The Jury composed by
Luisa Ceretto (she works at Bologna Cinematheque and is an essayist and cinema critic for "Il ragazzo selvaggio", "Primi Piani", "Cinecritica")
Paolo Nizza (senior editor for editorial content at Sky Cinema and co-author of the Youtube channell "Cuore Selvaggio")
Emanuele Sacchi
(journalist, essayist, and critic for "FilmTV", "MyMovies", "FilmIdee")
has assigned the following awards, chosing among the 17 movies present in the competitive Cine Futures section:

Jabberwock Award for the Best Film
Cities of Last Things (Xìngfú Chéngshì) by Ho Wi Ding - Taiwan/China/France, 2018
"For his ability to handle emotions. Ho  knew how to combine a dystopian view and social commentary with the intensity of noir and melodrama traditions of Taiwan and Hong Kong new wave."

Jabberwock Award for the Best Director
Hideki Takeuchi for Color Me True (Konya, romansu gekijo de) - Japan, 2018
"Because the Japanese director creates a charming painting full of nostalgia and passion. Through references and metacinema games, the audience can feel the lively and enthusiastic love for the art of cinematography."

Jabberwock Award for the Best Visual Effects
Perfect by Eddie Alcazar - US, 2018
"Because the movie dissects the edges of fanta-horror thanks to a surgical use of prosthetic make-up and CGI. Like a scalpel, it lifts the surface of perfection in order to make us transfigure into a world in between new flesh and biomechanics."

Jabberwock Award for the Most Original Film
ex aequo
The Final Land (Das letzte Land) by Marcel Barion - Germany, 2019
"For the courage of creating a handmade and vintage sci-fi, which is dirty and covered with soot, in which Tarkovsky metaphysics coexists with green phosphor computer screens."
The Pool (Narok 6 metre) by Ping Lumpraploeng - Thailand, 2018
"Because the director is able to create a story that wisely explores the storytelling dynamics of suspense by using the structure of a movie within the movie and a specific décor."

The audience is also called into action to cast their vote after watching the screenings of the competitive Cine Futures section.

Audience Award
Color Me True (Konya, romansu gekijo de) by Hideki Takeuchi - Japan, 2018
